Is it more patriotic to spend money or save money?

Jane W asked:

What would be better for America’s future.

Option 1: Spend my money on consumer goods so American workers who manufacture and sell these goods will stay employed.

Option 2: Save as much money as I can so the banks have more money to invest and lend and buy our treasury bills and bonds so we do not have to have the Chinese pay for our national debt.

both. save your money for a while so you may have larger spending limit. in the act of saving for however long you will be helping the banks, in the act of spending the larger saved amount you will be helping the workers who make the consumer goods.

Perhaps the most patriotic thing you can do is invest your money either in agriculture or in renewable energy company stocks.

Agriculture exports a lot of products to other counties. Which helps to pay off US debts to foreigners. And renewable energy makes USA more self-sufficient and less dependent on high-priced energy imports from other countries.

But spending your money in shopping malls on things you don’t really need is wasteful. And as the saying goes, ‘waste not, want not’. Which is true for both individuals and the whole country.

And giving your money to the banks who pay their executives multi-million dollar salaries and even bigger bonuses is probably just as wasteful.

If you want to help your country, then you should put your money to good use and not waste it on things you don’t need or give it to people who care more about themselves than their country.

Neither of those is patriotic in and of itself. If you want to be patriotic, urge your representatives to support free trade. Urge them to cut taxes and spending.

Do what you want with your money.

Sit down and analyze your particular circumstances, your current debt load, your needs, and your wants. When you are done make the decision based on your situation, whatever your situation demands is what is patriotic.
